Florida Department of Corrections Riverview Probation Office Hosting Job/Resource Fair

On Tuesday, March 29, 2011, the Florida Department of Corrections will be hosting a Job/Resource Fair at the 13-2, Riverview Probation & Parole Office – Twin Oaks Shopping Plaza located at 11112 US Hwy 41 South, Gibsonton, FL 33534 from 10 AM to 3 PM.

The purpose of the Fair is to assist those on probation/supervision to successfully re-enter society by helping them find jobs and housing, and to connect them to local resources such as health care, education, jobs and social services. While the Fair is focused on assisting citizens on state probation/supervision in Hillsborough County, the general public is welcome to attend.

Local businesses, health care providers, educational institutions and community resource organizations will be in attendance or will have applications available.

The Florida Department of Corrections employs approximately 2,100 probation officers to supervise more than 115,000 active probationers on community supervision throughout the state. Probation Officers help ensure public safety through the successful re-entry of former inmates and offenders on supervision into the workforce, and they conduct resource fairs statewide to help achieve that goal.

Probation officers’ duties also include making contact with offenders in their homes, at work and at the probation office; monitoring payment of victim restitution and court costs; ensuring that probationers attend court-ordered treatment programs for drug, alcohol and mental health issues; conducting pre-sentence and other investigations for the Court; and answering the Court’s questions regarding supervision programs, statutory provisions, out-of-state transfers, and probation violations.

There will be video and audio opportunities for reporters as well as interview opportunities with probation officials.

For more information about the Fair, contact the Office of Public Affairs at (850) 488-0420.
