Canine Unit from Hamilton Correctional Institution Catches Fleeing Felon
Jasper, Fl – A Florida Department of Corrections canine tracking team successfully tracked a fleeing felon on June 4, 2011 at 12:54 PM in the rural area of Suwannee County, Florida. Hamilton Correctional Institution was called to support Suwannee Correctional Institution’s K-9 tracking team when a subject accused of stabbing two victims fled into a wooded area off County Road 349. Hamilton K-9 took over the tracking of the suspect who was fleeing due to committing battery on two victims and had run from the area. The track started at approximately 2:00 PM and continued for approximately 1 mile and ended with the successful apprehension of the suspect without incident.
“This is another example of the value added to Public Safety by Department of Corrections K-9 teams. Great job Hamilton CI Sergeant William Billingsley, Officer James Toole, Officer Steve Folsom and Incident Commander Lt. Keith Morgan! We also recognize the combined effort of the Suwannee K-9 team lead by Sgt. Morris, Sgt. Hamm and Officer Carter, who ran the initial leg of the track that resulted in this successful capture,” said Hamilton CI Warden John Palmer.
