Reporters invited to Correctional Officer Graduation Ceremony at South Florida Community College, Avon Park Florida on June 21, 2011

WHAT: 16 Correctional Officers are graduating from SFCC on 6-21-2011, at 7pm. Reporters are invited to the graduation ceremony and to film/interview the graduates and speakers, including Keynote speaker Adam Martin, Criminal Justice Academy Coordinator.  Upon graduation, most of the recruits will work at Hardee CI. The Correctional Officer recruits must complete approximately 552 hours or almost 14 weeks of training in classes ranging from interpersonal skills, defensive tactics, and first aid to emergency preparedness, communications, and firearms training prior to graduation. They must also pass a Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission state certification exam administered by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.  Also, the Department has a requirement that all certified officers must complete 40 hours annually toward maintaining their Criminal Justice Standards and Training certification.

WHO: Adam Martin, Criminal Justice Academy Coordinator will make the Keynote address. The top academic student, class’s “Top Gun” for having the highest score in firearms training, and best student in Defensive Tactics will be announced at the ceremony
