Department of Corrections Probation Officers Recover Cache of Weapons from Probationer's Home in Margate

Department of Corrections Probation officers in Circuit 17-Ft. Lauderdale were working with Margate Police Department on a three day operation to help reduce crime in the city of Margate when they located multiple weapons in an offender’s residence.
During the Planned Compliance Initiative (PCI) with Margate Police Department on August 18, 2011, Correctional Probation Senior Supervisor Deborah Miller, Correctional Probation Specialist Sarah Harrington, Correctional Probation Specialist Ed Rufus, and Correctional Probation Senior Officer Brian Lawson conducted a search of an the home offender Jonathon McKenzie. In McKenzie’s bedroom, Correctional Probation Specialist Harrington found a loaded handgun in the dresser drawer next to the offender’s bed. Correctional Probation Senior Supervisor Miller located a gun safe in his bedroom closet, which contained four additional handguns, two crossbows, three shotguns, and six knives of various shapes and sizes. A large sword was also found in McKenzie’s living room and a smaller sword was found in a cabinet in the dining area of the home. The offender was taken into custody without incident.
