Holmes CI K-9 Team Capture Suspects
On Wednesday October 5, 2011 Holmes Correctional Institution K-9 team was activated at the request of the Holmes County Sheriff’s office. The Holmes CI K-9 team reported to the Best Western hotel in the city of Bonifay. Once on the scene, the K-9 team was briefed by Holmes County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Tyler Harrison who advised them that two drunk and disorderly suspects had fled into the woods surrounding the Best Western hotel. The two were suspected of assaulting, tying up and stealing the car of an elderly couple in Fort Lauderdale a few days before. K-9 “Ruff” was utilized and established a track heading East. Sheriff's Department Sergeant Harrison and Officers Arrant and Hires of the Bonifay PD accompanied K-9 Sergeant Tim Harris and Officer Mark Lumpkin of Holmes CI in the capture efforts.
The K-9 team tracked the suspects for approximately a quarter mile where the suspects were located and taken into custody by Sergeant Harrison and Officer Arrant.
“Sergeant Harris, Officer Lumpkin and K-9 Ruff did an outstanding job in assisting the Holmes County Sheriff’s Department. Their dedication and commitment to public safety is commendable,” said Holmes CI Warden John Whitfield.
