High Speed Chase Ends in One Death,
Capture of One Suspect by Walton CI K-9 Team

At 7:30 this morning Walton Correctional Institution (CI), Northwest Florida Reception Center (NWFRC) and Holmes CI K-9 Teams were called to assist the Washington and Bay County Sheriff’s Offices in tracking a carjacking suspect who fled on foot after being involved in a high-speed chase that ended in a crash and the death of one of the passengers. During the high-speed chase, two Correctional Officers were run off the road in their vehicles while driving to Northwest Florida Reception Center to report for work. Both sustained injuries that are not life-threatening and are seeking outside medical attention.

At approximately 9:30 this morning Central Time, one suspect was apprehended by the Walton CI K9 Unit and Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The other two suspects were apprehended subsequently by local law enforcement. The K-9 team from Walton CI consisted of Sgt. Allen Godwin, CO Doug Landingham, CO Nathan Bertram, and CO James Adams. NWFRC’s K-9 team was manned by Lt. Christon Holley, Sgt. Harry Brock, Sgt. Scott Marsceill, Lt. James Kirkland, and canines Dixie and Leonard. Holmes CI’s K-9 Team members were Sgt. Tim Harris, Officer Mark Lumpkin, Officer Art Teal and canines Charlie and Ace.
