Ann Howard Named Communications Director for Department of Corrections
TALLAHASSEE — Department of Corrections Secretary Ken Tucker announced on Monday to his staff that Ann Howard will be starting as the new communications director for DOC, effective December 16, 2011. A Washington D.C. native, Howard has worked as a communications professional for more than a decade, including time as a reporter and anchor and in the public information field for the state of Florida.
"I am pleased to have Ann Howard join the DOC family. I believe she will be a strong asset to help keep our momentum going strong and in the right direction," said Secretary Tucker. "As the Department faces new challenges, Ann will help the department educate our citizens about DOC and help keep our employees informed about what’s happening here in Tallahassee."
"I'm honored that Secretary Tucker has trusted me with this amazing opportunity to help communicate his goals and ideas for the agency’s future," said Howard. "I’m ready for this challenge. I believe my years as a journalist and with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles have helped to prepare me for this next opportunity with the state."
Howard is currently the DHSMV press secretary. Howard moved to Tallahassee in 2002 to work for WCTV as a reporter and anchor. Howard has a Bachelor of Arts from Virginia Tech, where she majored in TV Journalism/Communications and minored in Political Science.
