Department of Corrections Staff present Thousands of Books to First Lady Ann Scott at Governor’s Mansion Yesterday
Wakulla Correctional Institution (CI) Warden Ricky Dixon and Assistant Warden James Coker were among the many Department of Corrections personnel who helped deliver a sampling of the 14,000 books collected by corrections staff statewide in response to First Lady Ann Scott’s Holiday Book Drive at the Governor’s Mansion yesterday.
“We are very proud to represent Correctional Professionals throughout the State of Florida who have taken part in this effort. It is a pleasure to work with so many within our Department who realize the importance of participating in programs such as this, designed to promote literacy,” said Warden Dixon.
Among the Correctional Officers (CO) from Wakulla CI in attendance was CO Rhonda Hicks, who coauthored a children’s book entitled “Mr. Metals and the Pull of the Magnet.” She presented her book to First Lady Scott during the event.
The books will be given to children’s charities and adult literacy programs across the state, such as Adult and Family Literacy Centers, Boys and Girls Clubs, and the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch.
