Media Invitation:
Dog Training Graduation Program at Tomoka Work Camp

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- The Prison Pals N Pups program brings together rescue dogs from the West Volusia Kennel Club and Halifax Humane Society with inmates from the Tomoka Correctional Institution Work Camp, who obedience-train them. The graduating dogs are crate trained, housebroken, spayed/neutered, up-to-date on shots and micro-chipped. The “Top Dog” award will also be given at the graduation.

Currently one of every three inmates released from the Florida prison system returns to prison within three years. Through programs like Pals N Pups, the Department of Corrections is focusing on teaching inmates viable job skills that will lead them to productive jobs and law-abiding lives upon release.

The adoption fee is only $70. Dogs that are over 5 years of age are adopted for $35! Adoption forms may be obtained by calling the shelter at (386) 274-4703. For more information about the dogs, please visit halifaxhumanesociety.org.

Reporters are invited to the graduation of the Pals N Pups program at Tomoka Work Camp. Reporters will have an opportunity to interview and photograph/film inmates and program participants.
