3rd FEATS Graduation Ceremony & Adoption Showcase at Northwest Florida Reception Center
~ Program helps find forever homes for dogs and provides job skills for inmates. ~

Media is invited to the 3rd FEATS Graduation of the Force-Free Education and Training Solutions (FEATS) program at Northwest Florida Reception Center. The FEATS program brings together rescue dogs from Washington County Humane Society with inmates from Northwest Florida Reception Center, who through force free techniques, obedience-train the dogs. The dogs who graduate are housebroken, spayed/neutered, and are up-to-date on shots. They are trained to sit, stay, come, and walk by your side without pulling on the leash.

WHY: Currently one of every three inmates released from the Florida prison system returns to prison within three years. Through programs like FEATS, the Department of Corrections is focusing on teaching inmates viable job skills that will lead them to productive jobs and law-abiding lives upon release.

If you wish to attend the FEATS graduation ceremony, you must contact the Department of Corrections’ Office of Communications at (850) 488-0420 several days before the scheduled graduation to submit a Media Access Form, as background checks will need to be completed.

Adoption costs is $160.00 per dog and includes the training, spay/neuter, shots, and any additional vet care needed. All dogs have good temperaments and get along well with other dogs. Directions: From I-10 take Exit 120 (SR-77 South) approximately 19 miles, turn right on SR-279 (Moss Hill Road) go ¼ mile, turn right on Sam Mitchell Drive.
