Okaloosa, Fla.- At approximately 6:25 a.m., a Department of Corrections transport van was involved in a crash, while on the way to a scheduled work detail. The driver was a DC correctional officer and six inmates were on board.
As a result of the crash, one inmate, Lawrence Houze was killed. The officer and five inmates were transported to North Okaloosa Medical Center and have since been released.
The crash occurred when the van was turning from P.J. Adams Road from Highway 85 and another unknown vehicle pulled in front of the van, causing the van to lose control and flip over into a ditch. The extent of the vehicle damage is unknown. All passengers in the DC van and the driver were wearing seat belts.
