|WHAT:||The P&P program brings together rescue dogs from the West Volusia Kennel Club and Halifax Humane Society with inmates from Tomoka Correctional Institution Work Camp, who obedience-train them. The dogs who graduate earn the AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate. The graduating dogs are crate trained, housebroken, spayed/neutered, up-to-date on shots and micro-chipped.
|WHY:|| Through programs like Pups N Pals, the Department of Corrections is focusing on teaching inmates viable job skills that will lead them to productive jobs and law-abiding lives upon release.
If you wish to attend the Pups N Pals graduation ceremony, please contact the Department of Corrections' Communications Office at (850) 488-0420 before the scheduled graduation, as attendees will need to complete and submit a Media Access Form prior to the event.
Please note: No video or photos may be taken without the prior consent and approval from Department staff at the event. No cell phones or cameras will be permitted inside the institution.
Our Community Partners: The Halifax Humane Society adoption fee is only $70! Dogs that are over 5 years of age are adopted for $35! --a bargain, when you consider that the dog will be trained and housebroken. Adoption forms may be obtained by calling the shelter at (386) 274-4703.
