Prison Pups N Pals Graduation Ceremony to Be Held at Tomoka Correctional Institution Work Camp

WHAT: Media are invited to the Prison Pups N Pals graduation ceremony. The Prison Pups N Pals program brings together rescue dogs from the Halifax Humane Society with inmates from Tomoka Correctional Institution Work Camp, who obedience-train them. Graduating dogs earn the AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate and are crate trained, housebroken, spayed/neutered, up-to-date on shots and micro-chipped. The program also partners with Orlando VA to provide veterans with companion dogs. There will be opportunities to interview inmates, veterans and program participants.
WHEN: Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.
WHERE:

Tomoka Correctional Institution Work Camp
3950 Tiger Bay Road
Daytona Beach, Florida, 32124

WHY: Through programs like Prison Pups N Pals program, the Department of Corrections focuses on teaching inmates valuable job skills that will help to ensure successful re-entry. The program also partners with the Orlando VA to provide veterans with companion dogs.

If you wish to attend the Prison Pups N Pals graduation ceremony, please contact the Department of Corrections’ Office of Communications at (850) 488-0420 as soon as possible, as attendees will need to complete and submit a Media Access Form.

Please note: No video or photos may be taken without the prior consent and approval from Department staff at the event. No cell phones or cameras will be permitted inside the institution.

OUR COMMUNITY PARTNER: The Halifax Humane Society adoption fee is only $70. Dogs that are over five years of age are adopted for $35 – a bargain, when you consider that the dog will be trained and housebroken.  Adoption forms may be obtained by calling the shelter at (386) 274-4703.  For more information about the program, please visit www.prisonpups.org or halifaxhumanesociety.org.
