Second Chances Farm 15th Anniversary being held at Lowell Correctional Institution

WHAT: Media are invited to the 15th Anniversary of the Second Chances Farm horse program.  The Florida Department of Corrections partners with the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation to provide inmates with a comprehensive yearlong training program aimed at rehabilitating retired thoroughbred racehorses for use by the Department and other law enforcement agencies.  Second Chances Farm also prepares the animals for adoption by the general public and life-long retirements. This creates countless opportunities for success for both retired horses and inmates.
WHEN: Friday, April 24, 2015, 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
WHERE:

Lowell Correctional Institution
11120 Northwest Gainesville Road
Ocala, Florida 34482
(Second Chances Farm is located 1/8 mile south of Lowell C.I. main facility)

WHY: Through programs like Second Chances Farm, the Department of Corrections focuses on teaching inmates valuable job skills that will help ensure successful re-entry into Florida’s communities

Please note: No video or photos may be taken without the prior consent and approval from Department staff at the event. No cell phones or cameras will be permitted inside the institution.

For any questions or if you would like to attend the event, please contact the Department of Corrections Communications Office at (850) 488-0420 as soon as possible, as attendees will need to complete and submit a Media Access Form.
