Florida Senate Confirms Secretary Julie Jones with Unanimous Vote
TALLAHASSEE - Today, the Florida Senate unanimously voted to confirm Julie Jones as Secretary of the Florida Department of Corrections. Secretary Jones was appointed by Governor Rick Scott in January of 2015 and has overseen the implementation of widespread reform aimed at improving the safety, security and operations of Florida’s correctional institutions and community supervision programs.
Secretary Julie Jones said, “I am honored to receive the Florida Senate’s unanimous confirmation today. I will continue to serve and act in the best interest of those entrusted to our custody, our Department’s staff and our state’s citizens.”
As Florida's largest state agency, the Department of Corrections employs more than 24,000 members statewide, incarcerates more than 100,000 inmates and supervises nearly 140,000 offenders in the community.
