Inmate Assaults Correctional Officer at Avon Park Correctional Institution
AVON PARK, Fla. – An inmate assaulted a correctional officer Friday afternoon at Avon Park Correctional Institution.
Inmate Kenneth Jones (T56301) assaulted a correctional officer at approximately 3:18 p.m. Inmate Jones refused to return to his cell following a counseling and attempted to strike the counseling officer in the face with a closed fist. While the officer attempted to utilize reactionary force, inmate Jones placed his arm around the officer’s neck. At this point, two other correctional officers responded and placed the inmate in restraints, bringing the inmate into compliance.
The injured officer was examined by medical staff who noted scratches on his forearm.
Inmate Jones will receive a disciplinary report for this assault. The Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General will investigate this incident.
An Assault Advisory is issued by the Department of Corrections whenever a correctional officer or probation officer is attacked in the line of duty.
