Inmate Assaults Correctional Officer at Jackson Correctional Institution
MALONE, Fla.—An inmate assaulted a correctional officer Thursday morning at Jackson Correctional Institution.
Inmate Troy Mayze (G18272) assaulted a correctional officer at approximately 7:57 a.m. While being counseled by staff, inmate Mayze refused to submit to hand restraints and became combative. After ignoring staff orders and efforts to resolve the situation, inmate Mayze struck a correctional officer in the upper torso. Staff then successfully applied wrist restraints, at which point inmate Mayze became compliant.
The injured officer was examined by medical staff who noted an abrasion on a knee, a bump on the forehead and an irritated shoulder.
Inmate Mayze will receive a disciplinary report for this assault. The Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General will investigate this incident.
