Inmate Assaults Correctional Officer at Columbia Correctional Institution
LAKE CITY, Fla. – An inmate assaulted a correctional officer Friday morning at Columbia Correctional Institution.
Inmate Patrick Louis (K56316) attacked a correctional officer at approximately 9:50 a.m. While being escorted by staff, inmate Louis became combative and attempted to defeat the grip of the escorting officer. When a separate officer attempted to gain control of him, inmate Louis bit him on the wrist. At this point, several other staff members responded and inmate Louis became compliant.
The injured officer was examined by medical staff who noted teeth marks on a wrist and abrasions and lacerations to one arm.
Inmate Louis will receive a disciplinary report for this assault. The Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General will investigate this incident.
An Assault Advisory is issued by the Department of Corrections whenever a correctional officer or probation officer is attacked in the line of duty.
