WHAT: Local media has been invited to the first ever graduation of the Cuffs & Collars Dog Training Program. The training prepares the dogs for adoption into a forever family. The training is provided by inmate handlers under the guidance of volunteers from the community.

WHERE: Lancaster CI – Main Unit

Trenton, FL 32693
(Located 35 miles west of Gainesville)
WHY: The canine graduates are trained in basic commands as well as crate-trained, housebroken, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped. Through programs like Cuffs & Collars Dog Training Program, the Department of Corrections provides inmates with job skills that lead to productive employment and law-abiding lives upon release.
CONTACT: Those interested in adopting a canine graduate should contact Ms. Shawn Royce at 352-682-4727, or Ericka Hudson of Gilchrist County Animal Services at 352-463-4084. The fee to adopt is $40. The program can also be found on Facebook.
